About

Babelesque is about reading aloud words.

Babelesque is a website that doesn’t have any lucrative aim, doesn’t charge for the use of the blog, and it’s free in every way.

Babelesque is meant to be a virtual place to gather and share words, to create an on-line community of people passionate about words.

What you can do here is:

  • to write your words and read them
  • to write your words [and hopefully someone else will read them]
  • to read someone’s else words
  • to write anything about words, about your language, about language in general, about stories you like, about stories that would worth to be told aloud… and so on. we are not so strict, we’re open to new ideas ;)

Either the words are a poem, a prose or just… words that sound nice to be told aloud, this is the right place where to make others enjoy them too.
We encourage you to share YOUR words mostly, instead to pick famous ones
:)

You can pick your words, your friend’s ones or famous [or less famous] author’s ones but pay attention to the  copyright, ok? always name the source, if it’s not by you!

And being the [fake?] french-ish adjective Babelesque derived from the word Babel [do you know the Tower of Babel story, do you? ] you can use any language you want.
Just keep in mind that the main aim of this place is to share, so please add at least an English translation or summary.

Yes, differently from the Bible’s story, here the aim is to enjoy the different languages through the sound of their words - instead of talking all together the same language. Did ever occurred to you to listen to some foreign conversation [or even a song] without understanding the meaning of the words but enjoying the sound of them? and trying to guess what is all that about? It isn’t so different from the primal fascination of a new born that tries to catch those odd sounds that form a still unknown language. Probably we can’t recall that exact wonder, but we can always experience some new one, because the world is full of foreign languages!

A journey into a language is a journey into a whole world, and in this era where the globalization makes the culture  clashing so harsh, this want to be a place where different cultures meet and enjoy each other through the appreciation of the sound of their language.

The other aim of this website is more strictly about Reading.
What is ‘reading’? it’s that activity - spreading everywhere lately - where people gather at the same place and someone read something. and maybe a discussion follows - but the focus part is about reading aloud stories, that is a very old activity of the human kind. I hope you had the chance to taste the special pleasure to have someone reading for you a story: it’s all about to listen and let the mind wander - slightly swimming through the images that the story rise up! and in this 3rd century why not to virtually gather on the web and share? we thought it was a nice idea, so here we are, with Babelesque :)

PS. how Babelesque was born:
Once upon a time there was Francesca. She lived in T., Italy. She wrote something. Then she posted this something on an on-line art community. Once upon a time there was Paolo. He lived in S., Italy, 358 Km away from T. He found out the Francesca written something and liked and discovered it was good to be read aloud. Francesca had thought that too but had never told anynobody. Paolo told that to Francesca. Francesca told Paolo he could record a reading, if he liked. Paolo actually did it. That reading was so amazing - Francesca discovered Paolo liked making  readings with other friends. They started to talk and after some time, Babelesque was born.
